The Power of Choice, Building Resilience Against Peer Pressure, And Bullying at St. Stephens Anglican Grammar School, Ondo

At the Gbenga Fawehinmi Foundation, we believe that the heart of education lies beyond the pages of a textbook. Recently, our mentorship team had the privilege of spending time with the vibrant students of St. Stephens Anglican Grammar School.

The energy in the room was palpable, but so were the questions. In an age where digital influence is constant, we sat down to have an honest, heart-to-heart conversation about peer group pressure. We didn’t approach this as lecturers, but as mentors who have walked in their shoes. We discussed the subtle art of saying “no” and the courage it takes to stand alone when the crowd is moving in the wrong direction.

We also delved into the complexities of bullying. Bullying isn’t always physical; it’s often found in words and social exclusion. By fostering an environment of empathy, we showed the students that their words have power—the power to heal or the power to hurt.

Why Academics Matter Now

We closed the session by reconnecting these social choices to their academic goals. We reminded them that a focused mind is a protected mind. When a student prioritizes their studies, they aren’t just earning grades; they are building a shield against negative external pressures. To students: your potential is limitless, and your focus is your greatest asset.
