Real Talk at Owena Community Grammar School, Ondo
Topic: Bullying, Relationship And Peer Group Pressure
Our recent outreach at Owena Community Grammar School was nothing short of inspiring. As part of our ongoing Mentorship Series, the Gbenga Fawehinmi Foundation stepped into the halls of Owena to tackle the “silent” issues that often derail a student’s journey: Bullying and Peer Pressure.
In our sessions, we pulled back the curtain on bullying of all types—from the playground to the smartphone screen. We shared stories of resilience, teaching the students that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. We watched as barriers broke down and students began to understand that a community is only as strong as its kindest member.
The Academic Connection
We spent a significant portion of our time discussing healthy relationships. We taught the students that any relationship—friendship or otherwise—that distracts them from their academic excellence is a relationship that needs boundaries.
“Your books are your ticket to the world,” was our mantra for the day. We challenged the students of Owena to view their assignments not as chores, but as building blocks for the lives they dream of living. By mastering their subjects, they master their futures. We left Owena confident that these students are now better equipped to choose their friends wisely and their futures even more carefully.
